After a hailstorm in Lubbock, call your insurance company first, then have a roofer inspect and photograph the roof before anything is repaired. Texas Roof Pros documents hail and wind damage, writes a repair scope, can be on site when your adjuster inspects, and makes the permanent repair once you approve it.
Hail damage hides well. Bruised shingles often look fine from the driveway, then leak months later, when it's harder to tie the damage to one storm. A dated inspection right after the hail protects both the roof and your records.
If the storm opened the roof and water is coming in now, start with emergency roof repair and tarping.

Signs Your Roof Has Storm or Hail Damage
Random dark bruises on shingles
Hail knocks granules off shingles in round spots with no pattern. A fresh hit looks dark or shiny and may feel soft when pressed, like a bruise on an apple.
Granules piling up at downspouts
A sudden wash of sand-like granules at downspouts the morning after hail means shingles lost part of their UV coating. Slow granule loss over many years is ordinary aging.
Dents in vents, flashing and gutters
Soft metal records hail clearly. Dimpled roof vents, dented drip edge, pocked gutters and dinged AC fins show the stones were big enough to matter, and adjusters look for them.
Creased, lifted or missing shingles
Wind damage looks different. Gusts break the seal strip, bend shingles back along a crease and peel tabs off ridges and rakes, exposing nail lines that leak in the next rain.
Damage below the roofline
Split window screens, a cracked skylight, or paint chipped off siding and fences on the storm-facing side mean the roof took the same beating, even if nothing shows from the yard.
How Our Storm and Hail Damage Repair Works
Report it, then call us
The Texas Department of Insurance advises calling your insurer first after a storm. Then call us during our 7 AM–7 PM hours for a same-day response to schedule the inspection.
Inspect and photograph
We walk every slope, chalk and photograph hail hits in test squares, record dented metal and lifted shingles, and check the attic. You keep the full set of dated photos.
Protect open spots
Missing shingles, punctured vents or split decking get tarped or sealed right away, so rain doesn't add interior damage while the claim and repair schedule move forward.
Write the scope and meet the adjuster
We write a line-by-line scope covering slopes, squares, flashing, vents and shingle matching. When the adjuster visits, we can be on the roof to point out what we documented.
Make the permanent repair
Once you approve the work, we repair or replace the damaged roofing, clean up nails and debris, and photograph the finished roof for your homeowner records.
What Affects the Cost of Hail Damage Repair in Lubbock?
Storm repairs are priced from the inspection and written scope. These factors move the number, whether you pay through a claim or out of pocket.
Repair or replacement
A few torn tabs is a small fix; hail bruising across several slopes usually means a new roof covering.
Shingle matching
A discontinued shingle can force a full-slope replacement instead of a patch.
Metal and accessories
Dented vents, flashing, drip edge, gutters and ridge cap each add a line item.
Decking condition
Soft or rotted decking under damaged shingles must be replaced first.
Impact-resistant upgrade
A UL 2218 Class 4 shingle costs more up front; ask your insurance agent what credit your company offers.
How can you tell hail damage from wind damage?
Hail damage shows up as random round bruises, cracked shingles and dented metal scattered across a slope. Wind damage follows edges, ridges and corners as creased, lifted or missing shingles. Many Lubbock storms bring both, so a careful inspection records each type separately, because insurers and repair scopes treat them differently.
Our guide to the signs of hail damage on a roof shows both up close, plus what isn't hail.
Matching shingles that are no longer made
Discontinued shingle lines and faded colors can leave a patch that won't match or seal well to its neighbors. We note any mismatch in the written scope, and when it runs roof-wide, full roof replacement is often the cleaner answer.
Can a roofer pay or waive my deductible in Texas?
No. It's illegal in Texas for a contractor to offer to waive, rebate, or absorb a policyholder's deductible. Roofing contracts of $1,000 or more involving an insurance claim must also include a notice that the policyholder must pay the deductible. Treat any storm roofer who offers to cover it as a serious red flag.
That rule comes from the Texas Department of Insurance guide to roofing and insurance law. Other storm-chaser tells: same-day pressure to sign, big cash payments up front, no local phone number, and offers to negotiate your claim. Ask every roofer for proof of insurance, their city contractor registration and any license that applies, since Texas has not traditionally required a state license for residential roofing. Our after-hailstorm checklist covers the rest.
Recent hail on the South Plains
Most severe South Plains hail falls in spring and early summer, yet damaging storms have arrived as late as October. On June 23, 2023, NWS Lubbock recorded golf-ball to baseball-size hail in south Lubbock, with a grapefruit-size stone reported near 98th Street & Upland Avenue.
We repair storm-damaged roofs throughout Lubbock, in Abilene and the Big Country and in Midland and the Permian Basin. Not sure the storm did anything? A post-storm roof inspection settles it with photos.
